the steward gently lifts your tray

mowing underneath the jacaranda
i hit my head again
and that was it
i cut the branches back
until the saw was clogged with sap
i always take things too far

the kids at the pool were terrified
at the sight of you
so bare and white
treading water up the deep end
where they couldn't reach you
a tennis ball floating by your side

the house is silent, again
i should be working, but i can't

a burst of static
the pilot announces your descent
roused by the change in pitch
you stretch
and you scowl
and you wipe your chin with a towel
